11.5 WRANGLER NATIONAL PATRIOT

Some exciting news for the 2020 roping—it is moving to an 85% payback! The roping format will remain the same being a four-steer, with a three-steer consolation round, progressive on three, and will be limited to 150 teams at $2,000 a roper.

11.5 Wrangler National Patriot FAQ

1. IS THE WRANGLER PATRIOT TRULY AN INVITATIONAL?

Yes! Your entry, along with all others received for the 11.5, is sorted diligently to ensure that only legitimate 11.5 teams are allowed to compete. Data is delivered to our committee from Global Handicaps (the upgraded version of TRIAD) on each participating roper via the fact that all ropers must have competed in a USTRC or WSTR event over the prior 12 months.

2. WHAT DOES THE ROSTER OF THE WRANGLER PATRIOT TYPICALLY LOOK LIKE?

Last year, the average age of contestants in this roping was 52 years old. The youngest was 30 and the oldest was 81 years old. It was truly an international field in 2019, with teams from Canada battling contestants from at least 24 states including Hawaii.

3. HOW MUCH DOES THE WRANGLER PATRIOT PAYBACK TO THE ROPER?

This year, 85% of your entry fees are paid back. In 2019, we top-loaded the first-place average payoff, and your checks reflected that. We heard from you, so in 2020 we’re guaranteeing $100,000 to the average winners (based on 100 teams with the 85% payback, see sample payout for the main average).

A minimum of 50 different paychecks will be written to ropers in this event, including the go-rounds and the three-steer consolation. What’s more, this roping features the legendary BFI prize line including fully-tooled Cactus Trophy Saddles, Gist Buckles, YETI Coolers, Heel-O-Matics, Resistol Black Gold Hats, Cactus Trophy Ropebags, Justin Boots and much more.

4. WHICH CHARITIES BENEFIT FROM THE WRANGLER PATRIOT?

We love continuing the tradition of giving back, and one recipient in 2020 is Ranch Life for Legends & Heroes. The California-based organization uses traditional cowboy ranch life and horse companionship to offer healing to distressed veterans, active military and first responders. The other Reno charity we support is Pinocchio’s Moms on the Run, which helps pay living expenses and offset medical expenses for northern Nevada’s female cancer patients. We’re so grateful to partner with Priefert and Heel-O-Matic in auctioning off some great items to support these worthy causes.

5. WILL MY ENTIRE FAMILY ENJOY WRANGLER BFI WEEK?

Yes! The 43rd Annual BFI will take place on Monday June 22, at 8:00 am, a free dinner and the cowboy auction for THE FEIST will take place at The Silver Legacy on Sunday night June 21. The free dinner and cowboy auction for the 11.5 will also take place at The Silver Legacy Hotel on Monday night as soon as The Feist is over.

As a roper, you’ll receive a great swag bag before getting horseback to enjoy an even set of cattle, WSTR barrier, and epic cash and prizes. Your family will enjoy the trade show inside the roping arena, as well as the Silver Legacy’s popular Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, don’t forget Roxy’s Steakhouse in the adjoining El Dorado! Circus Circus also has a great midway for the kids to enjoy.

The entire family can rope at the WSTR qualifiers in Reno on June 19-21, held at Ironwood Equestrian Center (just 20 minutes from the Reno Livestock Event Center). And don’t miss watching the next best in our sport, during the Hooey BFI Jr Championship at the Reno Livestock Events Center on Saturday, June 20. See BFIWEEK.COM for all details.

This is your invitation to enter the 2020 edition of the 11.5 started by Perry Di Loreto all those years ago. While there have been some modifications to the roping, we still value the principals that Perry started this roping on—produce a fair and good paying roping, while giving back to the community.

Some exciting news for the 2020 roping—it is moving to an 85% payback! The roping format will remain the same being a four-steer, with a three-steer consolation round, progressive on three, and will be limited to 150 teams at $2,000 a roper. While many 11.5 ropings cap their heelers at a #7, we’re changing our cap to #6.5 on the heeling side. Your entry will still include a cowboy auction and dinner for you and your family hosted Monday night by the Silver Legacy Hotel & Casino.

Let’s talk payout. Where can you rope against 150 teams for the payout of 85%, PLUS the huge prize line worth another bucket load, which includes Cactus Saddles, Gist Silversmith Buckles, YETI Coolers, Cactus Saddle Pads, Cactus Breast Collars, Heel-O-Matics Bones & Hox, Total Feed, Bio Mane, Wranglers, Cactus Ropes, and Resistol Black Gold Hats just to name a few.

The schedule for BFI Week will change with Tuesday morning kicking off with the 12.5 High Desert Showdown at 8:00 am and the Wrangler Patriot 11.5 starting at noon.

BFI Week will see an addition of a 10.5 Over 40 Roping which means Wednesday will be an all Over 40 day for the ropers! The 10.5 roping will start at 8:00 am and the Cactus 9.5 will immediately follow. These are also 85% payback.

Thursday will still be the All-Ladies day, with the Team Roping starting at 8:00 am and the increasingly popular Breakaway roping starting at 1:00 pm.

Saturday, June 20, will see some of the best youth participating in the Hooey Jr BFI Championship, starting at 8:00 am with the 10.5 followed by the Open at 1:30 pm.

Finally, we have a new partnership to honor patriotism. On Saturday, June 20, we have a new event, Loops for Troops—a specialty breakaway roping for past and active members of the United States military. This will take place at noon during the Jr BFI Championship.
